BoM Definition, Build Records and As Built
The following system eCHR line types record the details of the required BoM for the item linked to the eCHR:
- BoM Definition: Definition of the BoM for the item being made, i.e., what are the requirements?
- Build Records: Record of the actual transactions that took place, i.e., consumptions and removals.
- As Built: List of components in the parent item.
BoM Definition Line Type
It may not be necessary to capture all BoM information in the eCHR. For instance, the MES might be required to record and track the consumption of consumable items for inventory management purposes (e.g., via backflush), but this data is not relevant to quality and therefore not required in the eCHR.
The specific BoM elements that must be included in the BoM Definition can be configured in the BoM version’s BoM Slot settings. Any slots marked as “Yes” under eCHR BoM Required will be recorded in the eCHR BoM Definition (provided the eCHR Profile has the line type BoM Definition included).
BoM Definition Triggers
BOM Definition Trigger is either:
- Creation of a new eCHR for an item with a BoM (including when a new item is created as WIP at the start of a job OR when there is a split off from an existing WIP item), or
- Transfer of an item to a new BoM version.

Build Record and As Built Line Types
Consumption of a component on the BoM may not be recorded in MES at all. For example, there is just a physical Kanban bin that is managed centrally, so although it is listed in the BoM, there may be no transactions/corresponding As Built in the MES.
The eCHR BoM Required field determines which elements of a BoM are required to be in the Build Record and the As Built record.
eCHR Build Required checkbox: If checked, use and remove transactions for this BoM slot will be included in the eCHR for the item, and the as built record in the eCHR will contain the contents of these slots (provided the eCHR Profile has the line types Build Record and As Built included).
Build Record Trigger
- Consumption or Remove transaction.
As Built triggers
- Finalisation of the eCHR.
- New revision for any removals or consumptions (if eCHR reopened).
- Split of the parent item or creation of an item through a split.
